Review of Auteur — WordPress Theme for Authors and Publishers

I’m not exactly sure how long ago I first commented on this theme, but as of now, it’s working well for my needs. As a blogger, it does what I need it to do. I’m not currently using support, but during the times I did, the response time was more than reasonable — usually within a day — and the support team seemed genuinely committed to resolving the issues.

That said, I do think the theme could benefit from more user-friendly setup options for those who want to launch quickly. This isn’t a critique as much as an observation — there’s so much control given to buyers that it can feel overwhelming if you just want to get up and running fast. Still, I understand if that’s not the intent behind the theme. Personally, I enjoy having so many customization options, especially as I’ve become more particular over the years about the look and feel of my site.

What I do think should be a priority for theme developers is regularly updating their plugins. I know updates can be sent individually, but I believe any time a plugin has been tested with the theme and proven functional, an update should be pushed out to everyone. For example, required plugins like Slider Revolution and Elementor Pro haven’t been updated in quite some time. I think it’s an easy fix.

Another suggestion I have is the addition of page templates for showcasing books, specifically ones you’re currently reading or have already read. While there are templates for selling books, they require a lot of maneuvering to work properly if you just want to creatively display a reading list. This isn’t a criticism, but a suggestion I believe could significantly enhance the theme and make it more appealing to users in the long run.

As for performance, I think the theme could be faster. However, I’m not entirely sure if that’s an issue on my end — perhaps I haven’t optimized it properly — or if the theme itself is a bit overloaded.

I’m giving it a solid 4. It could easily be closer to 4.5, given the breadth of options available, but there’s still some work to be done to streamline setup and functionality. It’s currently in use on my site, mrjerryjacques.com.
